ABOUT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) is a 19 member independent sub committee of Waterford City and County Council responsible for coordinating, planning and overseeing local and community development funds in the area.
It is responsible for public funded, community focused programmes which seek to develop the well-being of our community. The purpose of the LCDC is to bring better coordination to the delivery of local economic and community development, bring together representatives from the area to make decisions on local issues, and develop the community elements identified in the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) LECP 2023-2029 Final Publication English.
The Waterford LCDC is the Local Action Group (LAG) with ultimate responsibility for implementation of the Rural Development Programme (LEADER) 2023 – 2027 worth €6 million to County Waterford. The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht (DRCDG) is the government department with responsibility for the Rural Development Programme www.gov.ie/LEADER. The LAG is a committee comprised of both public and private entities responsible for selecting and approving projects in accordance with local development strategies developed specifically for their area LDS 2023-2027. Waterford LEADER Partnership is the implementing partner for LEADER 2023 2027. The priority for the new LEADER programme is to promote social inclusion, poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas. This priority acknowledges the key challenges facing County Waterford and facilitates the provision of supports to address issues, such as the impact of high levels of unemployment and an increase in levels of poverty and exclusion. Grant aid is provided to projects under the following themes:
- Theme 1: Economic Development and Job Creation
- Theme 2: Rural Infrastructure and Social Inclusion
- Theme 3: Rural Environment
